Three 20-ish grandchildren are called to their rich grandfather's estate, as he is about to decide who will inherit his vast estate and the fortune that goes with it. But before the grandfather announces his choice, he drops into a coma, and the IRS swoops in to take anything that's not nailed down. The grandkids are left only a detailed note with these instructions: take an old wooden chair (more a pile of kindling than anything else), and determine by visiting antique dealers across the country, “what it’s really worth.” Their cross-country journey becomes one of discovery and transcendent vision, and the decrepit old chair — and the old grandfather — turn out to be much more than they at first appear to be.
